Discussing the Value of a Liberal Arts Education

Last week our students had the opportunity to sit down at the ABC House with two professional women of color in town, LaShawn Springer and Angela Brown. LaShawn is Associate Director in the College Counseling Office at Phillips Academy and a graduate of Wesleyan University. Angela is Director of Admission at the Pike School and a graduate of Amherst College.

The women talked with the girls about the college search process and the value of a liberal arts education. As our girls consider their college options it is invaluable to hear the experiences of other young women who have gone through the college search process as women of color and be able to talk candidly about the importance of college visits and the entire application process. They were also able to share experiences of living in Andover as young women of color and exchanged humorous stories in a casual setting.
